A nationwide phone and email scam is targeting utility customers, including cooperative members, by sending bogus email invoices directing them to a virus-infected site, or phone calls threatening disconnection of service if they do not authorize a phone payment with a credit or debit card.
The email scam claims to be from a utility telling customers that their bill is ready to view and provides a hyperlink to view it. By clicking on this hyperlink, your computer is infected with malware which could go after banking info, usernames, and passwords. Do not open any suspicious emails. Delete them immediately.
If you receive a phone call regarding your overdue account, please do not give any financial or personal information to the caller unless you can be assured you are speaking with an employee of Tricounty Rural Electric.
If you do receive a phone call or email from a scammer, please get as much information as possible and call us immediately at 419-256-7900. Tricounty Electric considers this a very serious matter.
