$584,000 coming back to members via capital credits this holiday season

Tuesday | December 20, 2022
All News

Have you checked your December electric bill? Tricounty Rural Electric Cooperative members will receive $584,000 in capital credits this year. This return marks the 45th consecutive general retirement of margins, totaling nearly $20.9 million returned to members.

This month, the cooperative will retire 60% of the remaining balance of the 2004 margins plus 10% of the 2021 margins. Current members who are due a refund will receive a credit on their electric bill, and former Tricounty members who are due a refund will be mailed a check.

Capital credits allocations are the profits, or margins, that are left at the end of the year after all expenses are paid. Each year, net margins of the cooperative are divided among the members based on each member’s electric energy usage for the year.

The cooperative business model is the only one that ever pays margins back to (and only to) its members. That is the co-op difference that sets Tricounty Rural Electric Cooperative apart from others in the power utilities world.
